I frequently have to "torture" children in my profession. I always run into this and wonder...
Child: Screaming, yelling, "no no no."
Mom: just hold still, and it will be over faster.
Fine, I understand I was the same way as a child. Needles are scary to everyone. No one likes needles.
Child: attempts to rip arm out of socket to get away from needle. kicking, shaking.. etc.
But this is where I don't get it.....
Yesterday, a child (old enough to know better, like over 5 years old) tried to BITE me.
Mom says: you're okay, "you are doing really good!"
umm.... NO? no your child is not "doing really good" your child just tried to BITE ME!!
So to all you moms out there, help me understand. Why is this such a common phrase to say to a child during a shot, or blood draw or anything scary???

they don't know what else to say.
wait, was that a rhetorical question? man now, I just feel stupid.
Ha ha.no ash it was a real question. I'm not a mom,i don't understand how biting someone or spitting is "doing really good" but I guess just the stress of the situation and not knowing what to say maybe?
