As anyone who reads my blog knows, I LOVE my Great Dane (Riley) But after this week I'm realizing, she really has NO IDEA how BIG she is. After I lost count of how many bruises and bumps she's innocently given me. Or the time she pulled me off my bike. The last one was pretty bad, she knocked me off a curb, spraining my ankle, and later found out that it was torn ligaments. I had to be off of it for 2 weeks, then crutches, and a boot, and lucky for me it was my right ankle, so I couldn't drive myself anywhere. I recently hurt my back walking out of the chiropractors office. I slipped on some ice, caught myself but messed up my back pretty bad. So I went to the Dr went home and tried to relax it, ice it, etc. (I've gone through that many times) The next day I let Riley out. After a few minutes I heard her scratching at the door to get back in. I was standing right in front of the door knob, I twisted it, the door un-latched, just in time for Riley (all 125 lbs) to jump up with all her weight into the door. The corner of the completely (very heavy) wood door slammed into, just above, my left eyebrow. It made me spin around, half expecting blood I ran to a mirror to see what the damage was. All I could see was a huge bump. After I calmed down a little, I realized how dizzy and nauseated I was. So I called the Dr office to see what signs of a concussion are. The Nurse told me to come in and see the Dr. I didn't have a ride, so Markie (one of Jake's best friends) Took me to the Dr. (since I was already on pain killers from my back) The Dr told me I have a concussion and that someone needed to watch me carefully since all I wanted to do was fall asleep. He told Mark to watch me and make sure I didn't stop breathing, and to ask me questions like "who is the current president of the USA?" "What street did I grow up on?" etc. He also said that if I started slurring words or not making sense when talking, to go straight to the ER.
Luckily I was able to stay coherent and not go to the ER. I slept most of the day and that night. However, the next day I woke up with a splitting headache that wouldn't go away. (even with the pain killers I was on for my back) Nothing would take the pain away. So I called the Dr. office again, he said that the fact that those pain killers weren't working worried him. So he sent me to the Hospital for a CT.
I went in last night for the CT, and woke up today with a little less of a headache. So that's where I'm at right now. I feel like one giant, accident prone, female. :) I wish my dog could understand how big she is! I love her but man..... she's helped out with quite a few of my recent injuries.
Good thing I love her!
